Tree Snaps

Trees, broken trees, details of trees, almost anything about trees. These trees are in my radar and stop me in my tracks in my daily life.

These photographs started as the basis for my sketchbook for the Saplings project. However the cumulative effect of these images has made them a more substantial and less subsidiary project in their own right.

The trees I am compelled to photograph are damaged and in peril -they are not thriving or magnificent – they are in trouble. For me, they have come to represent everything that is good and bad in our society, everything that fails to flourish as a result of the negative impact of the social or physical surrounding environment.
